The more you listen, the more you discover says The Dwarf

Sunday, August 30 | Local songstress Leticia Maher delivers her much-anticipated album Fallen Angels, co-produced by Aria award-winner Craig Pilkington (Killjoys), and recorded with some of Melbourne’s most talented musicians.
Reading through Leticia’s bio and online blogs, she outlined that it took her a while to find the right person to collaborate with sonically, and also finding the right studio to record and mix her album. Credit to her for sticking to her gut feeling with this decision, which I feel has paid off in the long run. Her choice of recruiting Craig Pilkington- who obviously believes in Leticia’s abilities and song-writing style- and also bringing Neil Robertson aboard as well.
Having listened to Fallen Angels a few times, it occurred to me that the more you listen to it, the more you discover. This album covers a broad range of styles from jazz, blues and country- which is no easy feat. Leticia is able to convincingly deliver an album that draws you in. Lyrically, she’s covered some varying subjects - love, loss, self-discovery and triumphs.
Leticia has obviously been working as a live performer for quite some time, and this shows with the deliverance of the songs. The production on this album is exemplary; the acoustics and rhythm section carry the songs well. Leticia is no stranger to performing live and road-testing new songs whilst performing, and the confidence in the songs is evident in the delivery and structures.
Stand out tracks for me would be Everything, Walk Away and Hello Perfect Day (bird sounds and backing vocals on this song are particularly eerie and ominous.). There’s a certain confidence that comes through with her vocal delivery - which comes from a place of self belief and inner awareness. I look forward to seeing Leticia live as she’s probably one of the hardest working artists in Melbourne, and I anticipate great things to come .
